Sitton, Shields Sit Out Wednesday’s Practice for Packers

Sitton didn't miss a snap against Dallas on Sunday while Shields sustained a concussion in the second quarter.

The Green Bay Packers again have all five starting offensive linemen on the injury report.

As the Packers started their workweek for Sunday’s game at Oakland, only left guard Josh Sitton (back) and cornerback Sam Shields (concussion) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. Sitton didn't miss a snap against Dallas on Sunday while Shields sustained a concussion in the second quarter.

Receiver Ty Montgomery (ankle), center Corey Linsley (ankle) and outside linebacker Nick Perry (shoulder), all of whom did not play against the Cowboys on Sunday, were limited participation.

Coach Mike McCarthy wouldn’t say whether Montgomery was held out of the game because of field conditions or if his ankle simply wasn’t strong enough. The rookie has missed the last seven games.

“He’s progressing,” McCarthy said. “Hopefully he can get through a week of practice.”

As McCarthy revealed on Monday, he is taking the team to Oakland on Friday rather than departing on Saturday. He did the same thing when the Packers played at San Francisco in October.

“I think there’s a number of factors around that,” McCarthy said. “I think that the time of year is a factor. I think that what’s happened before you go out there is a factor. What’s coming after you is a factor. It definitely helps to go out on a Friday from an acclimation standpoint but it also creates other challenges, particularly when you’re a Saturday practice team as opposed to prior years, when we practiced on Fridays.”

McCarthy typically steers clear of hypothetical questions, and he did this one, as well: If not for the Christmas holiday, would he have kept the team on the West Coast for the Dec. 27 game at Arizona to avoid back-to-back road trips?

“It is Christmas,” he said, “so I can’t answer that.”

For the Raiders, safety Charles Woodson, receiver Amari Cooper and defensive end Khalil Mack didn’t practice. Mack didn’t practice last Wednesday, either, but seemed to be OK in the Raiders’ victory over Denver as he recorded five sacks. Cooper, however, failed to catch a pass against the Broncos.
