Packers Re-Sign G Lane Taylor

Lane Taylor, who started two games in 2015, was set to be a restricted free agent. Also re-signed was safety Chris Banjo.

One day before the start of the free-agent signing period, the Green Bay Packers came to terms with guard Lane Taylor.

Taylor, a restricted free agent, agreed to a two-year deal worth $4.15 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Tuesday. The deal includes $600,000 guaranteed.

Taylor, an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State in 2013, started at right guard in place of T.J. Lang at Detroit on Dec. 3 and at left guard as Josh Sitton moved to left tackle vs. Minnesota on Jan. 3. He was inactive for nine games. He allowed a half-sack and was not penalized in those games -- his first career starts.

With Taylor under contract in 2017, he could be in the mix should either Sitton or Lang depart in free agency following the upcoming season.

Fellow backup offensive lineman Don Barclay remains unsigned heading into free agency. Also unsigned is Green Bay's other restricted free agent, outside linebacker Andy Mulumba. Mulumba, who was inactive for nine of 16 games, recorded three tackles on defense and two on special teams. With such limited playing time, he is unlikely to be tendered and will be allowed to become a free agent.

The Packers also knocked safety Chris Banjo off the to-do list. The exclusive-rights free agent received the $675,000 tender, according to a source. Banjor languished for most of the 2014 season on the practice squad. Not so in 2015. New coordinator Ron Zook made good use of Banjo’s athleticism and strength, with Banjo’s 22 special-teams tackles being the Packers’ most since Desmond Bishop had 22 in 2009. His effort and tenacity caught the attention of his peers, who voted him a special-teams captain.

Banjo and Taylor are the second and third players re-signed by the Packers ahead of the start of free agency. The first was kicker Mason Crosby.

In February, the Packers signed Letroy Guion.
