Lions Sign ex-Packers Running Back

Running back De'Mond Parker, released by the Green Bay Packers in the team's final cutdown, signed with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. Parker lost out in a battle with Rondell Mealey and Herbert Goodman to make the Packers 53-man roster.

Parker led the Packers in rushing during the preseason with 123 yards on 24 carries. He played in 19 games over the past two years and had 54 carries for 269 yards and two touchdowns, and 13 receptions for 65 yards.

The Lions released running back Reuben Droughns to make room for Parker.

Packers coach Mike Sherman favored Goodman over Parker because Goodman is about 10 pounds heavier and a better blocker.
