Recapping Day 8 of Green Bay Packers Training Camp

With Aaron Rodgers and Brett Hundley sitting out Thursday's practice, the Packers appear set to go with two rookie quarterbacks vs. Indianapolis.

At this time 12 months ago, Joe Callahan was getting ready for his senior season at Division III Wesley.

Now, it appears Callahan is getting ready for his start in the NFL.

Callahan, an undrafted quarterback vying for a spot on either the roster or practice squad, figures to get the nod when the Green Bay Packers face the Indianapolis Colts in Sunday night's Hall of Fame Game. On Thursday night, the final practice before the game, Callahan and Marquise Williams took all the reps at quarterack as two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers was given a day to rest and backup Brett Hundley rested a sore ankle for a second consecutive day. There's no reason for coach Mike McCarthy to risk Hundley in a preseason game, and it would seem illogical for play Rodgers after he sat out the lone day of prep for the upcoming opponent.

FOR OUR MEMBERS: OBSERVATIONS FROM CAMP — AND THOUGHTS FROM A SCOUT

"The two young quarterback were going to play a lot anyway going into it, and the game plan for offense will reflect that," coach Mike McCarthy said before Thursday night's practice.

Callahan, who was the Division III player of the year as a senior, is an intriguing talent, impressing a CFL scout in attendance with his quick decision-making, athleticism and feel for the game.

"You learn so much from both Aaron, Brett and the coaches," he said. "Because any NFL experience, let alone 12 years like Aaron and the type of player he is, any advice you can get from an experienced vet like that is extremely valuable."

A camp-high 15 players missed practice, including running back Eddie Lacy, who dropped out of Wednesday night's practice with an ankle injury sustained in the half-line drill. The list also includes the five who remain on the physically unable to perform list: linebacker Sam Barrington (foot), center Corey Linsley (hamstring), receiver Jordy Nelson (knee), receiver Ty Montgomery (ankle) and tight end Jared Cook (foot). Also out were cornerback Makinton Dorleant (hamstring), inside linebacker Jake Ryan (hamstring), defensive end Demetris Anderson (ankle), offensive tackles Kyle Murphy (concussion) and Josh James (hamstring), and tight end Mitchell Henry (groin). The 15th is linebacker Manoa Pikula, who has been out a week and his No. 45 has been given to another linebacker, Derrick Mathews.

Returning to action were right tackle Bryan Bulaga (rest/knee) and defensive tackle Mike Daniels (personal).
