Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews sat out Wednesday’s practice with ankle and hamstring injuries.
Matthews briefly left the first quarter on Sunday’s loss to Minnesota due to the ankle and missed the end of the game with the hamstring.
Also sidelined for Wednesday were safety Morgan Burnett (groin), defensive tackle Letroy Guion (knee), outside linebacker Datone Jones (knee) and cornerback Sam Shields (concussion).
Jones’ health is worth monitoring. Guion is expected to miss the game due to a knee sprain sustained early Sunday. Jones helped fill the void and turned in another strong performance. If Jones is out or limited, the Packers are going to be incredibly thin up front for Sunday’s game against Detroit.
“I think Datone is off to a good start,” defensive coordinator Dom Capers said on Monday. “You’ve seen we’ve used him both inside and outside but I think he’s been impactful the last two weeks.”
Outside linebacker Jayrone Elliott, safety Chris Banjo and cornerback Chris Hawkins were full participation. They missed the first two games with hamstring injuries.
The Lions had eight players sit out practice, including star pass rusher Ezekiel Ansah and starting linebackers DeAndre Levy and Kyle Van Noy.
