Randall Cobb Could Be Game-Time Decision for Packers

Packers receiver Randall Cobb did not practice again while Darius Slay was limited for Detroit.

Randall Cobb missed a second consecutive day of practice on Thursday as the Green Bay Packers continue to get ready for Sunday’s NFC North championship showdown at Detroit.

Cobb sustained an ankle injury against Seattle three weeks ago. He was shut out against Chicago two weeks ago and inactive for last week’s game against Minnesota.

“We’ve got a plan in place,” Cobb said, “and we’re just trying to stick to that right now and get to Sunday.”

Thursday’s practice was the most extensive of the week. The team will not practice on Friday and will hit the practice field for an hour or so on Saturday before departing for Detroit. Cobb’s availability might be determined at the inactives deadline an hour-and-a-half before the 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Also of note from the injury report, right tackle Bryan Bulaga and cornerback Damarious Randall went from full participation to limited.

Detroit’s injury report was unchanged, meaning standout cornerback Darius Slay was limited participation for a second consecutive day. He told reporters at Allen Park that he’d talk on Friday but, judging by his smile and demeanor, he appears on course to play. Slay missed last week’s game at Dallas and most of the previous week’s game at the Giants. Detroit lost both games.

“You want to know where it is and how it’s functioning if that’s indeed the case,” Lions coach Jim Caldwell said before practice. “Finding out on game day, you also have to make certain that you’re dealing with your roster and things of that nature. There’s a lot of stuff that goes into it. You ask that question and people that within football will say, ‘There’s no way.’ You may be able to do that with a quarterback that’s been around forever, that you really limit how much activity that he has anyway because he’s dropping back, or playing from the gun or something of that nature. Other positions, that doesn’t work.”
