"He's a special big man …very talented," said Packer VP of Football Operations Mark Hatley. "He covers a lot of ground. That's what excited us the most."
Washington who made himself eligible for the draft a year early, turned in an outstanding performance at the NFL Combine and has recently worked to lose not only 25 pounds but also a knock for sluggish practice habits.
"He's a young player, and I think young players will mature," Hatley said. "I think you saw him mature. Does he need to finish better sometimes? Yes, but I think you can say that about anybody. When you get him playing to the potential that we think he can, I think we'll be excited about him.
"We spent a lot of time with this kid," Hatley said. "We think he has a huge upside."
College Career: Washington had 155 tackles with nine sacks, 23 tackles for loss and 52 quarterback pressures.
Scouting Report: "Will shock blockers on the rise with his hand jolt … Thick, massive frame, showing good balance and foot agility … Has a very aggressive nature … Can break down and stuff the running backs when workin in space … Good wrap-up tackler who is very effective collapsing the pocket as he utilizes his speed to immediately penetrate the gaps."
