Ticket sales for scrimmage top 33,000

After a three-year absence due to the Lambeau Field renovation, ticket sales are strong for the "Packers Family Night" scrimmage that will be held Aug. 7.

According to the Packers, more than 33,000 tickets have been sold for the event, which starts with a 7 p.m. intrasquad scrimmage. After the scrimmage there will be a question-and-answer session with Packers coach/general manager Mike Sherman and several players, as well as a "Shirt Off Our Back" drawing of 20 scrimmage-worn jerseys. Fireworks cap the evening.

In its first three years, the scrimmage drew 48,898 fans in 2001, 50,240 in 2000 and 46,420 in 1999.

Tickets are $8 and may be purchased in person at the Lambeau Field ticket office or any TicketStar outlet, over the phone by calling 494-3401 in Green Bay or 1-800-895-0071, or online at packers.com. Parking costs $5.

The scrimmage will be televised, with "pregame" programming beginning at 6 p.m. The game airs in Green Bay on WLUK-TV Fox 11, the scrimmage's main sponsor, or statewide on the team's preseason network.

The Packers open full-squad training camp on Aug. 2.
