Roster moves: Packers sign safety

The Packers signed safety Kevin Curtis and waived defensive end Ja'Dae McGuire Wednesday, the team announced.<p>

Curtis was a fourth-round draft pick of San Francisco in 2002 out of Texas Tech. A preseason knee injury ended his promising start there, as Curtis spent his rookie year on injured reserve.

The following year Curtis, 24, re-injured the knee in mini camp. He eventually reached an injury settlement with the Niners in August 2003.

Curtis, 6-2, 209 pounds, was a three-time All-Big 12 selection at Texas Tech. He finished his career there as the second all-time leading tackler and earned first-team all-conference honors as a sophomore, after playing every game as a true freshman.

Curtis will wear No. 46 for the Packers.

McGuire signed as a non-drafted free agent May 12, after a tryout in the post-draft mini-camp. An abdominal strain suffered Aug. 7 had sidelined him ever since. After sitting out Monday's game, the 6-5, 274-pound rookie out of West Virginia Tech was waived/injured today.
