McKenzie activated

The Green Bay Packers were given a two-week window to activate cornerback Mike McKenzie. They needed just a few days.

McKenzie will be on the active roster for today's game against the Chicago Bears. By activating McKenzie, the Packers were at 54 players, one more than the roster limit. Thus, Green Bay released rookie tight end Sean McHugh.

McKenzie held out for both minicamps, training camp and then missed the first regular-season game. By activating McKenzie, it would seem likely he would play today against the Bears.

Veteran Michael Hawthorne, however, will start in McKenzie's place. McKenzie likely will play in the dime defensive alignment, with his playing time coming at the expense of rookie first-round pick Ahmad Carroll.

McHugh was signed after being released by Tennessee in its final cutdown. He was an undrafted free agent who played fullback at Penn State.
