McKenzie may start Sunday

Prodigal son Mike McKenzie may unseat Michael Hawthorne as the Packers' starting cornerback, despite Hawthorne's solid performances against Chicago and Carolina, coach Mike Sherman told reporters Wednesday.<P>

"There's a chance Mike could start this week, a good chance," said Sherman as he addressed the press Wednesday. "We're going to increase the volume of reps that he has had in practice more so this week and push the envelope in this direction. Michael Hawthorne will again be a part of the package in a big-time way. Mike's role will be enhanced this week."

McKenzie returned from his lengthy holdout last week and played about 10 snaps against Chicago, mostly in the dime package. Hawthorne handled the starting role, contributing seven tackles and two forced fumbles.

The decision to go with McKenzie or Hawthorne has not been finalized, coach Mike Sherman said, but either way McKenzie will see more action in Indy than he did vs. Chicago.

Taken into consideration will be the Colts' air attack. Facing Peyton Manning will present a different challenge that those faced in Carolina's Jake Delhomme or Chicago's Rex Grossman, a second-year player who got the better of the Pack.
