Longwell named Player of the Month

Kicker Ryan Longwell was named the NFC special teams Player of the Month for October, the league announced Thursday.<p>

Also honored were Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper and Eagles CB Lito Sheppard as the NFC offensive and defensive players of the month, respectively.

Longwell was perfect on his 7 field goal attempts in October, including two from 50 yards or more. He also hit 16-of-16 extra point attempts.

One of his long field goals helped reverse the four-game losing streak. Green Bay saw their lead at Detroit dwindle to 14-10 in the second quarter, but Longwell pushed the margin to seven points with a 50-yard field goal to end the first half.

In other October games, Longwell contributed two field goals each in back-to-back wins over the NFC East's Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins.

This is Longwell's second Player of the Month award. He was named the NFC's top special teams player for September 2002.
