Favre a Miller Lite Finalist

The finalists for the Miller Lite NFL Player of the Year are:

BRETT FAVRE, Quarterback, Green Bay Packers
MARSHALL FAULK, Running Back, St. Louis Rams
RICH GANNON, Quarterback, Oakland Raiders
KORDELL STEWART, Quarterback, Pittsburgh Steelers
MICHAEL STRAHAN, Defensive End, New York Giants
KURT WARNER, Quarterback, St. Louis Rams

Favre, the Miller Lite NFL Player of the Year in 1995 and 1996, enjoyed another dominating season in 2001, and is fast etching his name among the all-time greats at the quarterback position. With a quarterback rating of 94.1, Favre completed 61.6% of his passes (314 for 510) for 3,921 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2001. Favre guided the Packers to its first playoff berth since 1998, leading the team to a 12-4 regular season mark.

Each of the six finalists will receive $5,000 to donate to his favorite charity, with the overall Miller Lite NFL Player of the Year winner receiving an additional $25,000 to present to the charity of his choice. Favre designated his donation to a charity that he sponsors, The Forward Foundation.

The six national finalists were chosen by the Miller Lite NFL Player of the Year nomination committee, which consists of eight pro football journalists from across the country. The 2001 Miller Lite NFL Player of the Year will be selected from these six finalists by a committee of more than 250 media representatives comprised of broadcasters and print journalists from each of the 31 NFL markets.

The 2001 Miller Lite NFL Player of the Year award will be presented the week of Super Bowl XXXVI during a press conference held at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans on Wednesday, January 30, 2002, starting at 4:30 pm.
