Roster move: Thurman promoted

As expected, the Green Bay Packers promoted wide receiver Andrae Thurman from the practice squad on Thursday to fill the receiving vacancy left by the injured Robert Ferguson. To make room on the roster, the Packers placed second-year defensive tackle James Lee on season-ending injured reserve.

Thurman, a 5-foot-11, 192-pound rookie out of Division III Southern Oregon, has been on the practice squad since Sept. 8. He went undrafted and, after a minicamp stint with the Giants, latched on with Houston for training camp. He was among the Texans' final cuts.

Lee, meanwhile, was the backup at nose tackle. He started the Sept. 19 game against Chicago as a replacement for Grady Jackson. Lee suffered a tear in the lateral cartilage in his left knee during the game and missed the next four games. He played in the next seven games but was inactive for last week's game against Jacksonville. In his place, Colin Cole recorded three tackles.
