How does Mike Sherman stack up with other NFL coaches? In this week's Sporting News, each of the league's 32 coaches are compared based on expectations. In this case, whether they won or lost compared to what the Las Vegas prognosticators predicted.
By that measure, Sherman was one of the league's best coaches. The Packers finished 4-2 when underdogs last season. That record is tied with Dick Vermeil of Kansas City for second place, a game behind Pittsburgh's Bill Cowher
, who was 5-1 when the underdog.
As any Packers fan will note, however, one of the Packers' biggest shortcomings was losing games they were supposed to win. The best teams not only beat the best teams on a regular basis, but they take care of the business a vast majority of times against bad teams.
Sherman finished 6-4 when the Packers were favored, with losses coming to the Giants, Bears, Titans and Jaguars.
