Heading overseas

The Packers have allocated running back Herbert "Whisper" Goodman and eight others to the NFL Europe League for its 2002 season.<p>

Guard/long snapper Ed Kehl (BYU), cornerback Hurley Tarver (Central, Okla., State), linebackers Paris Lenon (Richmond) and Cornell Menafee (Mississippi State), guard Tim Stuber (Colorado State), safety Emile White (Houston) and punter Cory Sargent (Michigan).

Goodman, entering his third season, played in seven games for the Packers last year, making one kickoff return for 21 yards and three special teams tackles. He also forced one fumble on kick coverage and had one special teams stop in the Packers' Wild Card Playoff victory over San Francisco on Jan. 13.

Goodman only had one carry from scrimmage for minus-1 yard. He was buried on the depth chart behind Ahman Green, Dorsey Levens and Rondell Mealey for most of the season.

Kehl was on the Packers' practice squad throughout the season. Tarver and Lenon also were on the practice squad during the course of the '01 campaign.

The NFLEL draft is set for Feb. 12. Each team's assignees will then know which team they will be with and will report to the first of two training camps, to be held at Tampa, Fla., from March 4 until April 1.

The NFLEL clubs – the Amsterdam Admirals, Barcelona Dragons, Berlin Thunder, Frankfurt Galaxy, Rhine Fire and Scottish Claymores - then will conduct their own one-week training camp in Europe April 1-7.

The league begins its 10-week schedule April 13, to be climaxed by World Bowl 2002 at the Rheinstadion in Düsseldorf, Germany, June 22.
