Off-season minicamps schedule

In a twist from a typical off-season, Green Bay Packers coach and general manager Mike Sherman has scheduled two minicamps instead of the customary three.<p>

The first minicamp is set for April 22-28 on a back-to-back basis for veterans and rookies/first-year players. The second minicamp is set for June 3-12. Both minicamps will be open to the public and held at the team's practice fields across from Lambeau Field. In case of inclement weather, the team practices inside the Don Hutson Center and practices are closed to the public.

Veterans are scheduled to report on April 22, conduct physicals on April 23 and practice April 24-25. Rookies and first-year players then will report on April 25, with practice sessions set for April 26-27-28.

The NFL draft is schedule for April 20-21.

The June minicamp will include daily practice sessions June 3 through June 7, with a break for the weekend of June 8-9, to be followed by three final practice days June 10-12.

Opportunity sessions also will be held during the offseason, on a voluntary basis. They will be closed to the public and media, Sherman said.

The Packers had four off-season minicamps in 1999 and 2000 under new head coaches Ray Rhodes and Sherman. The team had three last year.
