Defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, who led the Packers with 13 1/2 sacks last season, will receive the Professional Achievement Award at the fifth annual Lee Remmel Sports Awards Banquet April 11 in De Pere.<p>
Gbaja-Biamila finished with the most sacks for the Packers since Reggie White led the league with 16 in 1998. A fifth-round draft selection by the Packers in 2000, Gbaja-Biamila also had one sack in the postseason – Jan. 20 in the Packers' divisional playoff loss against St. Louis. Besides sacks, Gbaja-Biamila also led the Packers' defense in pressures (15), quarterback hits (28) and forced fumbles (3).
Gbaja-Biamila played about one third of the downs each game as the team's pass-rushing specialist. He had nine sacks in the Packers' first four games this season, tying Mark Gastineau (1984) and Kevin Greene (1998) for the most sacks in the first four NFL games of a season. He was named NFC "Defensive Player of the Month" for September after posting a league-high six sacks, one forced fumble and eight tackles in Green Bay's first three games.
