Walker to play in softball game

Javon Walker, who has been chastised by fans and media since he began his contract holdout last week, plans to carry on with the inaugural Javon Walker Celebrity Softball Slam next weekend in Milwaukee.

The event will take place at Miller Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. It will feature about 20 to 30 celebrities, including Packers middle linebacker Nick Barnett. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit HeartLove Place Ministries in Milwaukee, which supports single mothers, and other charities designated by the participants.

Walker will be on hand, according to a committee member for the event. "He will not be a holdout for this," said Christine Knipple. "So, I guess if people want to see him, this will be the place."

Besides Barnett, other celebrities who plan to attend include Milwaukee Bucks head coach Terry Porter, Minnesota Vikings running back and former University of Wisconsin star Michael Bennett, Indianapolis Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt, actress Tara Reid and rap artist Lil Wayne.

Walker, named to his first Pro Bowl last season after leading the Packers in receiving, began his contract holdout last week when he skipped the Packers' mandatory post-draft mini-camp practices. He is not expected to participate in the June mini-camp, either. Walker has two seasons remaining on his current contract. He is scheduled to receive base salaries of $515,000 this season and $650,000 in 2006.

Ticket prices for Walker's softball event range from $5 for reserved seats to $25 for field box seats. They can be ordered by telephone at 1-800-933-7890.
