Roster moves: Pack signs free agent QB Meyer

The Packers signed quarterback Dave Meyer the backup to Michael Vick as a collegian, as a free agent, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.<p

> Meyer, 6-3 and 208 pounds, originally signed on with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent April 27, 2001. Later placed on waivers July 31, he was out of football for the balance of the '01 season.

In another roster move, the Packers released punter Cory Sargent, former University of Michigan specialist.

Meyer had appeared in 23 games as Virginia Tech's No. 2 quarterback over the 1998, 1999 and 2000 seasons. He started four games over his collegiate career and spent the latter two years as the backup to Vick, currently the Atlanta Falcons' starting quarterback. Overall, Meyer completed 60 of 113 passes for 890 yards and 3 touchdowns, with 6 interceptions.

Meyer, who has been assigned jersey number 10, becomes the fourth quarterback on the Packers' 2002 roster, joining veterans Brett Favre and Doug Pederson and first-year signal caller Josh Heupel, the former University of Oklahoma field general signed as a free agent February 7.
