Davenport placed on IR

Running back out for the season with a broken right ankle

Running back Najeh Davenport was placed on injured reserve today by the Green Bay Packers. Davenport sustained a broken right ankle in Green Bay's 52-3 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Davenport was injured after catching a two-yard pass late in the first half. The fourth-year veteran rushed for 54 yards on 12 carries and a career-best two touchdowns earlier in the game. The contest marked his second NFL start, in place of an injured Ahman Green.

Green said afterward that he plans to be ready to play when the Packers return from their bye week on Oct. 23 at Minnesota.

Davenport, Green Bay's fourth-round selection in the 2002 NFL Draft, Davenport has averaged 4.9 yards on 217 career carries, for 1,068 yards and seven touchdowns, and 24.1 yards on 46 career kickoff returns, for 1,110 yards. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
