Favre gets FedEx honor

Narrow victory player of the week award

Only 20 votes secured Brett Favre's award as FedEx NFL Express Player of the Week in an incredibly tight race this week over Dallas' Drew Bledsoe.

For winning the honor, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin will receive a $5,000 donation from FedEx on Favre's behalf. Denver Broncos running back Tatum won the FedEx Ground Player of the Week for games played on October 9-10.

Favre completed 19 of 27 passes for 215 yards, three touchdowns and a passer rating of 130.9 in the Packers' 52-3 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Favre threw touchdowns passes of one, 25 and 26 yards, the third time this season that he has throw for three or more touchdowns in a game. Bell ran for 127 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries in the Broncos' 21-19 victory over the Washington Redskins. Averaging more than 10 yards per carry, Bell scored the Broncos first points on a 34-yard run in the first quarter and their final points on a 55-yard run in the third quarter. Favre and Bell were selected from among finalists in air and ground categories through 84,536 fan votes on FedExFootball.com. The other FedEx Express NFL Player of the Week finalists were Bledsoe of the Dallas Cowboys and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. Running backs Shaun Alexander and of the Seattle Seahawks and Fred Taylor of the Jacksonville Jaguars were the other finalists for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week.

Favre received 36.6 percent of the fan votes for FedEx Express NFL Player of the Week, while Bledsoe received 36.55 percent (a difference of only 20 votes) and Brady received 27 percent. Bell's 60 percent of the fan votes for FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week beat out Taylor's 22 percent and Alexander's 18 percent.

The children's hospitals in the two season-long winner's markets, announced at this year's Super Bowl, will be awarded $25,000 each. FedEx will deliver nearly $250,000 to local children's hospitals around the country in recognition of the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Award winners.
