Whitticker took all of the reps with the first-string offense in team drills at practice Wednesday, relegating veteran Grey Ruegamer back to his previous role as the backup to center Mike Flanagan. Ruegamer made his first start of the season in the last game, taking over for Whitticker. However, Ruegamer committed a false-start penalty two plays in and was overcome by dehydration in the fourth quarter, leaving Whitticker to finish the game.
"There's some plays I'd like to have back, but it's the way it goes. I jumped offside. I got beat on an inside move on a pass block. It's one of those things that happens, I guess," Ruegamer said. "I didn't take advantage of the opportunity, and they're going to make a change.
"It's disappointing to have an opportunity like that and not play as well as you wanted to. Knowing that this was the potential outcome, it's frustrating."
