Opportunity knocks for rookies, free agents

While the next minicamp will not start until early June, all of the Green Bay Packers' draft picks as well as rookie free agents and some veterans will take part in "opportunity sessions" beginning today in Green Bay.<p>

This year, coach and general manager Mike Sherman has scheduled the special sessions around the team's two off-season minicamps. Green Bay's final minicamp is scheduled for June 3-12 in Green Bay. It is open to the public, weather permitting, in which case the team practices inside the Don Hutson Center.

The opportunity sessions this week are closed to the media and public. The practices are designed to help the newer players grasp Green Bay's system.

Since the post-draft minicamp, Packers coaches have begun game-planning for their first four regular season games, and all of their NFC North Division opponents.

"The month of May is huge for us because of the development of our football team," said Sherman at the conclusion of the post-draft minicamp. "As I told the vets before they left town, this month is huge to get jump-started and headed in the right direction to where we want to go."
