Top pundits feel Seahawks second-stringers will beat Packers

Tom Andrews, Correspondent
Season prediction record: 10-5
Seahawks 24, Packers 20
Comment: Mike Holmgren is quietly - and finally - having the kind of season that was expected of him when he left Green Bay. Even though the Seahawks have their division title and home-field advantage wrapped up for the playoffs, Shaun Alexander will be trying to break the all-time NFL touchdown record (27) that he tied last week. Holmgren also knows he's got to give his starters at least some playing time to keep them in their rhythm heading into the playoffs. I look for the Packers to battle hard much as they did against the Bears. Unfortunately, in this duel, they just don't have enough bullets.

Comment: The Seattle first-stringers grab a quick lead, and the reserves hold off the Packers, who lose for a franchise-record 13th time.

Seahawks 23, Packers 14
Comment: Holmgren will play his starters long enough to build up a lead and get Alexander a legitimate shot at the touchdown record. Seattle's "scrubs" should be able to play the Packers even from there. The pain of the Packers' season for their fans will then come to merciful end.

Season prediction record: 8-7
Seahawks 24, Packers 7
Comment: Even though the Seahawks will probably only play their starters for a half I expect them to beat the Packers.

Season prediction record: 7-8
Packers 24, Seahawks 10
Comment: In what could be Brett Favre's final game of his career, he puts on a show in front of the three coaches he has had in Green Bay - current Packers coach Mike Sherman and former Packers coaches Mike Holmgren (Seattle coach) and Ray Rhodes (Seattle defensive coordinator). Kind of ironic if Favre retires that this scenario plays out.

Season prediction record: 7-8
Packers 24, Seahawks 21
Comment: If the Seahawks didn't have everything sewed up for the NFC playoffs, I'd never pick the Packers. But since Seattle will not be playing many of its starters in the second half, and in the defensive backfield for the entire game, look for Green Bay to rally for a win in this glorified preseason game that also will serve as the Packers' Super Bowl for this season, according to Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila.

W. Keith Roerdink, Correspondent
Season prediction record: 6-9
Seattle 24, Green Bay 17
Comment: It will be a bitter irony. On one side of the field, Brett Favre, at the lowest point of his career in what could be his final home game, and on the other side, Mike Holmgren, the man who had the Packers on top of the world, on top once more with the Seahawks. But in this game, even Seattle's second-stringers should be able to pull out a win.

Comment: In lieu of becoming a free agent, Longwell kicks the game winner in hopes of big bucks next year.

John Lombardi, Correspondent
Season prediction record: 5-10
Packers 24, Seahawks 21
Comment: The Seahawks rest most of their talent and the Packers end the season on an up note.

Bob Fox, Correspondent
Season prediction record: 3-12
Packers 21, Seahawks 17
Comment: Mike Holmgren will be playing his reserves early and often as his Seahawks have already clinched home field advantage in the NFC. Brett Favre and the Packers will try to end the season on an uplifting note. Expect the Packers to play hard as this could be the last appearance at Lambeau Field for a number of players and coaches, including Brett Favre and Mike Sherman.

Comment: I refuse to pick against the Packers. Call it superstition or wishful thinking, but it has worked wonders for my prediction percentage over the past decade-plus. Like the Pack, however, I have little to brag about this year. Here we go one more time -- Mike Holmgren doesn't like losing under any circumstance, but with the top spot squared away maybe the Seahawks will let down their guard just enough for the Pack to steal one.

Season prediction record: 3-12
Packers 31, Seahawks 26
Comment: It would be nice to see the Packers defense stop Shaun Alexander from breaking any NFL records at Lambeau, along with protecting Paul Hornung's total points record. This along with winning one last game at Lambeau would be good for the team and the fans. Brett will get his 20th TD pass and win this game in the fourth quarter.
