Sherman in running for Jets job

Recently fired Packers coach Mike Sherman is on the list of candidates to replace Herman Edwards with the New York Jets and Packers quarteracks coach Darrell Bevell likely will be the offensive coordinator under Minnesota's new coaching staff.

Edwards officially remains the Jets' coach, though he seems destined to move to Kansas City to take over the Chiefs in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.

Looking forward, the Jets' list of candidates, according to The Associated Press, includes defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson, offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff. Other names linked to the job are Sherman, former New Orleans Saints coach Jim Haslett and Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Fassel.

In Minnesota, Brad Childress officially landed the Vikings' job on Friday. Childress, who was on the Packers' interview list, was the offensive coordinator in Philadelphia.

Before joining the Eagles, Childress was offensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin when Bevell quarterbacked the Badgers to the Rose Bowl. Childress, not Bevell, would call plays, Childress said.
