Safety, Packers meet

Williams a backup in Baltimore

Free agent safety Chad Williams met with Packers officials in Green Bay on Friday, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The Packers apparently are seeking more veteran depth at the strong safety position. Green Bay signed free agent free safety Marquand Manuel to a $10 million deal in March. Manuel likely will be placed ahead of veteran Mark Roman, who has started the last two seasons at free safety.

Williams has played in all 64 games for the Ravens since being drafted in the sixth round in 2002. He has four career sacks, including one in Baltimore's 48-3 win over Green Bay last December, and eight interceptions.

The 5-foot-9, 207-pound Williams started three games in 2005 for the injured Ed Reed. He finished with 47 tackles, one interception and three passes defensed.
