Klemm placed on injured reserve

Offensive tackle Adrian Klemm, who injured his Achilles tendon Saturday in practice, was placed on season-ending injured reserve today by the Green Bay Packers. Klemm was expected to serve as a backup to Chad Clifton this season.

A seventh-year pro, Klemm started the first eight games at left guard last season before he was benched.

Klemm received an $800,000 bonus as part of a two-year contract that he signed with the Packers during the off-season of 2005.

The Packers inserted Will Whitticker and Josh Bourke at left tackle behind Clifton during practices on Sunday. Fifth-round pick Tony Moll also will be competing for a backup spot behind Clifton.

The Packers signed free agent tackle Todd Williams to take Klemm's place on the roster.

Williams, a 6-foot-5, 332-pound lineman out of Florida State, entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft choice (225th overall) of the Tennessee Titans in 2003. Inactive for all 16 games during his rookie season, he played in six games in 2004. Last season, the Titans released him in September and he was out of football before Tampa Bay signed him as a reserve/future free agent in January. The Packers have assigned him No. 53.

Pickett returns to practice
Ryan Pickett, who missed practice Saturday and Sunday morning's practice after sustaining a mild concussion in an automobile accident near Lambeau Field, returned to practice Sunday evening.

Pickett was cited for failing to yield after pulling out of the Lambeau Field parking lot around noon on Saturday. He sustained minor injuries, and four passengers in the other vehicle also sustained minor injuries. Pickett was hit on his driver's side door and he suffered a concussion.

"Hopefully they're doing OK," Pickett said of the people in the other vehicle. "I stayed home all day yesterday and slept. "I regret that somebody else was injured and that their car was full of people," Pickett said.

Pickett participated in some drills, but not the 11-on-11 sessions.

Kenderick Allen again started with the first-team defense in place of Pickett.

Injury update
The Packers did not sustain any major injuries during both Sunday practices.

Linebacker Tim Goodwell, who missed the first two days of practices with a sore knee, took part in both practices Sunday.

Those who did not practice were: RB Ahman Green (quadriceps), LB Brady Poppinga (knee), CB Will Blackmon (foot), WR Leo Bookman (ankle), CB Patrick Dendy (ankle), S Marquand Manuel (calf), and LB Byron Santiago (back).

Quarterback Brett Favre, running back Najeh Davenport and offensive tackle Chad Clifton were excused from the morning shells practice, but returned for the evening pads practice.

Davenport and Clifton underwent off-season surgery, while Favre is nursing a sore ankle.
