Temperatures rose into the low 90s today with a heat index that hovered around 100 degrees. The Packers practiced in pads in the morning and without pads in the afternoon.
News of the day: The Packers signed free agent wide receiver Brian Haugabrook. The 6-2, 200-pound Haugabrook, a three-time letterman at the University of Florida, had signed with the San Francisco 49ers following this year's NFL draft and subsequently was released after the 49ers' June mini-camp.
Sidelined: Defensive back Bhawoh Jue (groin), cornerback Tod McBride (back), offensive tackles Kevin Barry (hamstring) and Earl Dotson (knee) did not practice at all.
Linebacker Nate Wayne (knee) and safety Antuan Edwards (knee) practiced in the morning but not the afternoon. Running back Ahman Green tweaked his hamstring and sat out of the afternoon practice. Others who missed the afternoon practice included running back Jason Brookins (heel), offensive tackle Kevin Jordan (knee) and defensive tackle John Gilmore (sinus infection/heat illness).
Who's hot: Rookie quarterback Craig Nall has been impressive in scrimmages, showing good arm strength and completing many of his passes.
Who's not: Vonnie Holliday. The defensive lineman took part in conditioning drills and some individual drills, but did not scrimmage because his agents say that his insurance paperwork is not in place. When he wasn't practicing, Holliday spent time inside the Don Hutson Center working out on his own.
Roster moves: The signing of Haugabrook brings the roster to the league limit of 88. Quote: ""He frees up a lot. Anytime a guy can occupy both guys and the center, that's huge for a middle linebacker." - Hardy Nickerson on Gilbert Brown.
Weather: Sunny, about 91 degrees and humid.Next practices: Monday, July 29 beginning at 8:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.
