Hawk gets rookie of week honors

Linebacker had season-high 12 tackles, sack against Dolphins

Linebacker A.J. Hawk of the Green Bay Packers was named the NFL's rookie of the week for his performance last Sunday.

Hawk had nine solo tackles, three assisted tackles and one sack in the Packers' 34-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He led Green Bay with 12 total tackles and currently ranks second on the team with 43 tackles this season. Hawk's 2.5 sacks are tied for second on the team.

More than 39,100 fans voted this week on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service. Hawk was selected from among five finalists. The other finalists were defensive end Elvis Dumervil of the Denver Broncos, wide receiver Derek Hagan of the Miami Dolphins, running back Wali Lundy of the Houston Texans and running back Leon Washington of the New York Jets.

Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings was named rookie of the week in Week 3.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com and via Sprint wireless service throughout the month of January. The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLI in South Florida. This is Pepsi's fifth year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the second year that Diet Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.
