Playoff scenarios

Packers must beat Bears, then get help from other teams to obtain final berth

The NFC playoff picture for the Green Bay Packers came into better focus Monday night with the Philadelphia Eagles' victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Providing the Packers beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday, they will be in position to earn a wild card berth in the NFC playoffs with a little help from either the Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers or Atlanta Falcons this weekend.

The Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys have all clinched playoff berths, leaving one spot open heading into the NFL's final weekend.

The Eagles clinched a playoff spot with their 23-7 win against the Cowboys and took over the driver's seat for the No. 3 seed behind Chicago and New Orleans thanks to their head-to-head wins against their NFC East rival.

The Packers, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and St. Louis Rams are all contending for the sixth and final berth.

Green Bay clinches a playoff berth under one of the following scenarios, according to the NFL:

1) GB win + NYG win + GB clinches strength of victory tiebreaker over NYG

2) GB win + NYG loss or tie + STL loss or tie

3) GB win + NYG loss or tie + CAR win

4) GB win + NYG loss or tie + ATL win

5) GB tie + NYG loss + STL loss + ATL loss or tie + CAR loss or tie

The Giants play at Washington, Carolina is at New Orleans, Atlanta is at Philadelphia, and St. Louis is at Minnesota this weekend.

The Packers can clinch the strength of victory tiebreaker over the Giants if all of the following occur: ARI win, DET win, MIA win, MIN win, SF win, CAR loss, HOU loss, TB loss.

If Green Bay and the Giants end up tied in strength of victory, then the tie will be decided by best strength of schedule.
