Kampman sacks All-Pro honors

After posting a career-high 15.5 sacks, Packers defensive end Aaron Kampman was named to the All-Pro second team on Monday.

The season started with questions about whether Aaron Kampman deserved his lucrative new contract. It ended Monday with the defensive end being named to the Associated Press' prestigious All-Pro team.

Kampman landed a spot on the second team. He received 15 of a possible 50 votes from a panel of national media. The NFL's defensive player of the year, Miami's Jason Taylor, was a unanimous selection. Julius Peppers claimed the other first-team spot with 22 votes. Buffalo's Aaron Schobel, sort of a Kampman clone, received six votes and was the other second-team selection.

Kampman finished with 15.5 sacks, more than doubling his career total of 13.5 entering the season. His 89 tackles set a career high. His sack total was third most in team history.

For what it's worth, Peppers had 13 sacks and only 57 tackles.

Kampman, who inked a four-year, $21 million deal that included $12 million in bonus money before he hit free agency last offseason, was the only Packer to earn a spot on the two teams.

Two others Packers received votes. Donald Driver received six votes at wide receiver, only one short of tying Houston's Andre Johnson for a spot on the second team.

The first-team receivers are Indianapolis' Marvin Harrison (43 votes) and Cincinnati's Chad Johnson (22), and the second-teamers are St. Louis Torry Holt (eight) and Johnson (seven).

Rookie A.J. Hawk got one vote at outside linebacker.
