Waiver wave begins

The Packers waived five players Saturday, trimming the roster to 68 on the way to Sunday's NFL-mandated 53-player limit for the regular season.<P> Headlining the list was nine-year veteran guard Jeff Blackshear and third-year pro/former Wisconsin Badger defensive back Jason Suttle.<p>

The other veteran waived Saturday was second-year offensive tackle Reggie Nelson. Joining them on the waiver wire are a pair of first-year players, offensive lineman Tim Stuber of Colorado State and fullback Joey Dozier of New Mexico State.

With 68 players remaining on the Packers' roster, 15 more need to be released to reach the regular-season limit by the 3 p.m. Central deadline Sunday.

NFL teams may set their five-player practice squads after 3 p.m. on Monday (September 1).
