Knee injury sidelines Tauscher

Right tackle Mark Tauscher is expected to miss nearly two months after suffering a partial ttear of his medial collateral ligament in his right knee, the Packers announced.<p>

Tauscher also has meniscus damage from the injury which occurred in Sunday's loss at New Orleans.

The third-year pro could undergo arthroscopic surgery today, officials said. Recovery time is expected to be up to eight weeks.

Veteran Earl Dotson, who started at right tackle for five seasons (1995-99), will step in. The focus shifts to Dotson's chronic back pain and his ability to take punishment as a starter.

"I wouldn't be able to do it if it wasn't for our training staff," Dotson said. "They are the reason I'm able to play.

"I was told I was an insurance policy and I guess it's time to cash it in," he said.

Coach Mike Sherman echoed concerns about Dotson's back but is confident the veteran can get the job done.

"That is a concern,"Sherman said. "He came out of this game good and that's all I can judge it by. We have to be careful what we ask him to do in practice.

Offensive line coach Larry Beightol said he has a good feeling about going with his most experienced backup:

We feel like we have solid backup," Beightol said. "He'll get himself ready to play."
