Mason Crosby Q&A

Kicker talks about first training camp practice with Packers, fishing

Q: How did your first NFL practice feel?
Mason Crosby:
"It was awesome. The weather was unbelievable. Back home in Texas it's just raining and pouring so this is awesome. The tempo was fast. It's great to be a part of this. The fans are so cool. I got to ride the bike to practice. That's a great tradition here. It's just awesome to be a part of all of this."

What is your mindset heading into a kicking competition?
"I don't think about that. I just go out and make kicks. I just have to prepare and focus to do my job. I have to prove it every day. That's all I'm thinking of. As long as I'm making kicks, the rest should take care of itself."

Q: How do you approach each kick?
I just do what I've been doing for so long. I remember to stay smooth with each kick. I focus on kicking strong through the ball. It's not really anything big time. I'm not thinking, ‘do this,' ‘don't do this.' I just go at it and hit it. It's what I've been doing for a long time so I'm going to stick with what works."

Q: At college you'd attempt kicks from any distance. Will that boldness carry into the pros?
"Yeah. Every time I go out there, I'm confident I can make it anywhere and anyplace. It's just another challenge, another kick. You don't take anything for granted in practice and games. I'm ready every time I go up to kick."

Q: As an avid fisherman, do you have any stories to tell?
"A couple years ago I went spear fishing and shot a big 35-inch grouper. We were scuba diving and spear fishing. That was the ultimate thing. My family is really big into hunting and fishing so I love it [in Green Bay]. There's a lot of fishing opportunities out here so I look definitely forward to doing that."
