Packers-Eagles: Player notes

Jennings injures hamstring, Woodson to return punts in place of Blackmon

WR Greg Jennings was added to the injury report Thursday with a hamstring injury. He had limited participation in practice. Rookie James Jones would have to fill a lead role if either Driver or Jennings is held out of the game.

RB Brandon Jackson continued to practice on a limited basis, though he's expected to be cleared to make the start at halfback Sunday after missing the final preseason game because of a concussion.

RB Vernand Morency didn't do as much in practice Thursday as he did the previous day and could be deactivated Sunday. Morency, the projected starter at the halfback position, only returned to the field this week after being out all but the first practice of training camp with a strained patellar tendon in his right knee.

RB Ryan Grant, acquired last weekend in a trade with the New York Giants, has been limited in practice the last two days because of sore hamstrings. His status remains up in the air for Sunday.

RB DeShawn Wynn, who missed the majority of the preseason because of sickness and a thigh injury, is good to go Sunday and will have a dual role at halfback and as a kickoff returner.

CB Will Blackmon won't be put in harm's way on punt and kickoff returns Sunday. He has been practicing this week with a cast over a fractured left thumb, but the coaches aren't going to take any chances on having him return kicks with one good hand. Consequently, starting cornerback Charles Woodson is penciled in to return punts, with first-year cornerback Tramon Williams joining Wynn on kickoff returns. Williams also can return punts.

DE Michael Montgomery (knee) already has been declared out for the game. OT Tony Moll (neck) and rookie S Aaron Rouse (hamstring), both backups, likely will be deactivated as well.

RB Brian Westbrook has been catching punts in practice and could be used as a situational punt returner this season.

WR Greg Lewis probably will be the Eagles' primary punt returner Sunday against Green Bay, though the coaching staff said a decision has not yet been made.

DE Jevon Kearse was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday because of a shoulder injury. But defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said Kearse will play Sunday against Green Bay. DT Kimo von Oelhoffen, who was claimed off waivers from the Jets earlier this week, is expected to be used for 15 to 20 plays Sunday, mainly in run situations.

S J.R. Reed, claimed off waivers from the Giants earlier this week, probably will return kickoffs Sunday against Green Bay.

WR Jason Avant will be the team's No. 3 receiver behind starters Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown. Avant beat out Hank Baskett for the job in the preseason.

P Sav Rocca will be kicker David Akers' holder this season. The two seemed to work well together in the preseason.
