Jones hurts hamstring in practice; Palmer placed on injured reserve

The injury bug has been biting Green Bay's wide receivers early and often this season. Rookie James Jones left practice today after injuring his hamstring, the Packers said.

Jones hurt his right hamstring while running a deep route about 20 minutes into practice. Coach Mike McCarthy said that Jones wanted to continue to practice, but he sent him back to the locker room for treatment.

The Packers have been without wide receiver Greg Jennings the first two games of the season after Jennings injured his hamstring in practice on Sept. 6. McCarthy said that Jennings is expected to practice with the team on Friday.

Running back Vernand Morency is not expected to play this Sunday. His patellar tendon was sore again after participating in part of practice Wednesday, McCarthy said.

"Another week or two will help him," McCarthy told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "I think if this was a playoff game, he'd be out there playing."

Lineman placed on injured reserve
The Packers placed reserve guard Tony Palmer on injured reserve today, the team announced.

Palmer sustained a small bone fracture in his neck last Sunday during Green Bay's 35-13 win over the New York Giants.

Palmer is the eighth player to be placed on injured reserve this season.
