Jets sign Clowney off practice squad; tight end added to practice squad

Wide receiver David Clowney, selected in the fifth round of the NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers last April, signed with the New York Jets today, has learned. The Packers filled Clowney's spot on the eight-man practice squad by signing tight end James Adkisson. Clowney was released by the Packers in the team's final cutdown on Sept. 1, then was signed to the practice squad the next day. He fell behind Chris Francies, who was promoted to the 53-man active roster for a game earlier this season, on the depth chart.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Adkisson, 27, spent parts of the 2004 and 2005 seasons on the Raiders' practice squad. He was signed to the active roster for the final regular season game in '05. He played in two regular-season games in 2006 and had one catch for 9 yards.
