SERIES: 10th meeting. Chiefs lead series, 6-2-1. Kansas City has won the last five games, dating to 1989, including two against Brett Favre at Arrowhead Stadium. The most recent meeting yielded a 40-34 Chiefs win in overtime at Green Bay in 2003. Of the Packers' two wins, the last of which was in 1987, the crowning achievement was a 35-10 whitewash of the Chiefs in Super Bowl I at Los Angeles in 1967.
PREDICTION: Chiefs 17-16
KEYS TO THE GAME: The Packers are playing their second tough road venue in less than a week after a dramatic win in Denver on Monday. The key could be RB Ryan Grant, who emerged as the lead back with a 104-yard effort against the Broncos. Not only can he help Green Bay achieve more balance offensively, but protect QB Brett Favre a bit from Kansas City's strong pass rush. The Chiefs hold opponents to a 26.7 success rate in the red zone, but field goals could be gold in a potential defensive clash. ... The Chiefs may have a winning record, but they're still minus-11 in scoring differential this season. They're finding ways to win, and the way against the Packers is dominating time of possession and field position. RB Larry Johnson is averaging just 3.6 yards per carry, but has 100-yard efforts in three of his past four games. QB Damon Huard will attack downfield only as much as is needed to soften the run defense a bit.
KEY INJURIES: Packers: TE Bubba Franks (knee) is out; C Scott Wells (pneumonia) is questionable and would again be replaced by Jason Spitz; DT Ryan Pickett (knee) is expected to play; OL Junius Coston (ankle sprain) has missed two games and is still limited. Chiefs: WR Eddie Kennison (hamstring) remains questionable; Huard continues to play through calf, groin and shoulder ailments.
FAST FACTS: Favre has an NFL-record 13 career touchdown passes of at least 75 yards, including two last Monday. ... Chiefs DE Jared Allen has 8.0 sacks in just five games played this season.
