Ex-Packers roundup

Updates on some of Green Bay's castoffs from around the league

Here is an update of former Green Bay Packers from reports around the National Football League:

-- FB Brandon Miree tried out for the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 12. Miree was released by the Packers at the end of training camp. He played in 10 games with three starts in 2006 for the Packers. A seventh round selection of the Denver Broncos in 2004, Miree caught nine passes for 57 yards in his only stint last year in Green Bay.

-- WR Robert Ferguson (2001-06) caught a team-leading six passes for 59 yards, including a long of 35, against his former Packers teammates in his return to Lambeau Field. Ferguson was released by the team in training camp and signed a one-year contract with the Vikings. Ferguson, like Wade, still does not have a touchdown catch with Minnesota.

-- TE David Martin (2001-06) returned to the Dolphins starting lineup after missing a game with a groin injury, and he had a decent game, grabbing four catches for 34 yards in Miami's 13-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. Martin is seventh amoung Dolphins receivers with 19 catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

-- WR Javon Walker (2002-05) might return to practice this week for the Denver Broncos. His return from a knee injury is unlikely this week, but he could be back soon and be a factor in the final month of the season.

-- WR Antonio Chatman (2003-05) is now the No. 1 punt return man for Cincinnati with the release of Skyler Green. Chatman had two fair catches at Buffalo Nov. 4 and really did not have enough room to run with the ball. On Sunday at Baltimore, Chatman broke off a season-long 19-yard return and added two receptions on offense.

-- RB Najeh Davenport's 53 carries are just seven fewer than he had all last season with the Steelers. He has a 5.3-yard average per carry and has rushed for 279 yards and three touchdowns this season. Davenport played for the Packers from 2002-05.

-- RB Ahman Green will start Sunday for the Houston Texans. His tendonitis will likely force him to the sidelines early in games. Green is second on the team in rushing behind Ron Dayne with 260 yards on 70 carries (3.7 avg.) and two touchdowns. Dayne, who starred at the University of Wisconsin, has rushed for 348 yards on 100 attempts and two touchdowns.

-- PR/KR Allen Rossum (2000-01) will continue to return punts and kickoffs even though he's been a disappointment. Coach Mike Tomlin said he won't consider a switch to Santonio Holmes "at this time."

-- C Mike Flanagan (1998-05) is coming off his best game at center against Oakland Nov. 4. He was outstanding in blocking in the run game for the Texans.

-- CB Therrian Fontenot (2005) was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad on Tuesday. Fontenot was initially signed as a rookie free agent by Buffalo following the 2005 draft, but was released as part of the team's roster cutdown on August 30 that year. He was signed to Green Bay's practice squad a week later, where he remained until being promoted to their 53-man roster on Dec. 30. He saw action in Green Bay's regular season finale.

Fontenot was traded during the 2006 offseason from Green Bay to Cleveland, where he was subsequently signed to their practice squad.

-- WR Onrea Jones was recently signed to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. Jones spent a few weeks on Green Bay's practice squad this season.

-- RB P.J. Pope was recently placed on Chicago's practice squad/reserve list with a shoulder injury. Pope was with the Packers last year. He sustained a knee injury in Green Bay's training camp this year, and was released later in camp.
