Packers-Rams: Player notes

Injury updates, news on individuals from each team

GREEN BAY PACKERS
-- DE Aaron Kampman is expected to play Sunday against the Rams, but did not practice Friday after suffering back spasms Thursday. Kampman is listed as questionable (50 percent chance of playing), though, team doctors have given him the green light.

"Dr. (Pat) McKenzie feels he'll be ready to go Sunday," Coach Mike McCarthy said, "and if we do feel that we are putting him in jeopardy for the long term, we'll definitely go another direction. We'll have a backup plan for that. But that's not my understanding based on the conversation with the medical staff."

-- RG Junius Coston experienced a setback with a lingering ankle injury and didn't practice Thursday. Jason Spitz, slated to make a second straight start at left guard, moved to right guard in practice, and former starter Daryn Colledge was back at left guard.

-- LT Chad Clifton (sprained shoulder) was held out of practice for the second straight day but went through the team drills Friday and is expected to play Sunday at St. Louis. Practice squad player Orrin Thompson filled in for Clifton on Thursday, with Colledge's having to move inside.

-- RT Mark Tauscher (ankle) went through the full practice Thursday and Friday, and should be good to make the start Sunday.

-- TE Bubba Franks practiced all three days this week, albeit on a limited basis, but probably won't play Sunday after aggravating the same knee that he sprained Oct. 14.

"I know Wednesday he felt very good going into the practice and then went downhill a little bit (Thursday)," McCarthy said. "He just cannot get over the last hurdle right now."

-- CB Jarrett Bush (calf) probably will not play Sunday after being relegated to non-activity this week. He practiced on a limited basis on Friday, but is listed as doubtful. If Bush is sidelined for the game, the coaches are inclined to get Frank Walker, Tramon Williams and Will Blackmon involved as a part of a rotation at nickel back.

-- QB Aaron Rodgers (hamstring) practiced on a limited basis on Friday and may be ready for game action Sunday if something were to happen to starter Brett Favre. Rodgers did not practice Wednesday and Thursday this week after being deactivated for the last game because of the injury. Craig Nall would again fill the No. 2 role.

-- QB Brett Favre was the league's top vote getter at all positions with 1,140,863 in the fan balloting that ended Tuesday for the Pro Bowl. CB Charles Woodson led the NFC cornerbacks with 348,063 votes. The Pro Bowl teams will be announced next Tuesday.

-- CB Charles Woodson returned to practice on Friday, and has been receiving treatment this week for a sore toe he played with in the last game. The team has been cautious with Woodson on a weekly basis in not putting him through the practice paces until the end of the week. He should play Sunday.

-- MLB Nick Barnett isn't on the injury report. The team's tackles leader suffered a scratched cornea Sunday, when he was poked in the left eye by Oakland center Jeremy Newberry. Barnett finished the game but was experiencing double vision in the eye. He's wearing a protective visor on his helmet.

ST. LOUIS RAMS
-- QB Marc Bulger took most of the snaps with the first unit in practices Thursday and Friday, and looked good, according to coach Scott Linehan. Added the coach, "Things look real positive for Sunday. Our quarterback situation looks a little more favorable this week than it did last week."

-- QB Gus Frerotte took some snaps with the first unit Thursday and also ran the scout team. Frerotte is expected to be available this week to play, if needed.

-- RB Brian Leonard was limited in practice Thursday and Friday because of a knee injury, but is expected to play Sunday against Green Bay.

-- S Hanik Milligan, who has contributed on special teams, was limited in practice Thursday and Friday because of a hamstring. It is unknown whether he will be able to play Sunday against the Packers.

-- C Brett Romberg is available to play this week, and might start instead of Andy McCollum.

-- QB Brock Berlin, who started last Sunday against Cincinnati, was the scout team quarterback in practices this week.

-- S Oshiomogho Atogwe participated in practices this week, although his injured groin got a little tight at the end of practice Wednesday. He is expected to be able to play this week against the Packers.

-- OT Rob Petitti, who suffered a concussion against Atlanta Dec. 2, passed his neuropysch test Tuesday and did some limited work in practices this week.

-- CB Eric Bassey, who has missed the past two games because of a knee injury, participated fully in practice tos weel and is expected to be available for Sunday's game against Green Bay.

-- WR/KR Brandon Williams, who missed last Sunday's game against Cincinnati because of an ankle injury, did not practice this week and is listed as 'Out' for Sunday's game.
