Position breakdown: Quarterbacks

Will the Packers sign a veteran quarterback to back up Rodgers?

Here is a breakdown of the Green Bay Packers' quarterback position:

Depth chart: Starter: Aaron Rodgers. Backups: Brian Brohm, Matt Flynn.

Strength or weakness? Depth at the position is a weakness. If Rodgers is injured for any length of time the Packers could be in trouble. Both rookie quarterbacks are far from being comfortable with the offensive scheme.

Though Brohm is officially listed as the backup to Rodgers on the Packers' depth chart, it wouldn't be surprising to see Flynn enter the season as the No. 2 guy and Brohm carrying the clipboard as the designated No. 3 quarterback. Flynn clearly out-played Brohm in four preseason games, throwing for three touchdowns to none for Brohm. Flynn appears more comfortable and aggressive in the offense.

Rodgers has waited patiently and prepared behind Brett Favre for three seasons. Rodgers is more than ready to go and will perform much better than a typical first-year NFL starter.
