In other news, restricted free agent Jason Hunter signed the Packers' tender offer of $1.01 million, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan.
Montgomery said he signed a two-year contract. Terms were not available. At 6-foot-5, he has ideal height to play defensive end in the new 3-4 defense. At 273 pounds, though, he'll need to add about 20 pounds to be a good fit in the scheme.
In 14 games with eight starts last season, he finished with a career-high 71 tackles (50 solo) and doubled his career output with 2.5 sacks. He was the Packers' defensive player against Tennessee, when recorded 15 tackles and a sack, and also had a strong performance in Week 16 at Chicago.
Hunter was the Packers' best special teams player in 2007 with a whopping 30 tackles, the highest output on the team since 1984. Last year, however, he slumped to three tackles in 12 games. On defense, he added two sacks. In the new defense, he'll be one of several candidates to be the outside linebacker opposite Aaron Kampman.
