Everyday I Write the Book: Packers quarterback Brett Favre has passed for a touchdown in 12 consecutive playoff games. His first TD pass against Atlanta tonight will tie Dan Marino's NFL record of 13 – his second would establish him as the league's career leader.
Favre has 29 career postseason touchdown passes, which ranks fourth. He and needs two to pass Terry Bradshaw (30) and four to pass Marino (32) into second all-time behind Joe Montana with 45. Favre has 3,940 career playoff passing yards and needs 60 to become the fourth player in NFL postseason history with 4,000.
Miss You: If the camera catches Packers' special teams coach Frank Nowak looking longingly across the field, who can blame him? Former Packer Allen Rossum returns to Lambeau Field as a member of the Atlanta Falcons.
Rossum averaged 12 yards on 24 returns this year, including a 36-yarder in the season opener at Lambeau Field, when the Packers won 37-34 in OT.
"Allen's done a great job," Falcons coach Dan Reeves said. "We're tickled to death to have him."
Long May You Run: No NFC team has ever won three games to get to the Super Bowl except for the Washington Redskins in the strike-shortened 1982 season.
Time Passages: While the Packers have just 10 players remaining from their latest Super Bowl team (including Doug Pederson, who left and came back), the Falcons have just five members of their Super Bowl XXXIII squad.
Long December: Faclons' QB Michael Vick was red hot in November, but has cooled off considerably since then. He completed only 47.9 percent of his passes in Atlanta's five contests last month, down almost 10 percent from his completion percentage the rest of the season.
That hasn't helped the Birds red zone woes. In a 24-16 loss Sunday at Cleveland, the Falcons drove insidethe 20-yard line five times, but scored only one touchdown and settled for two field goals. Atlanta ran its final three plays from the 1 as Vick overthrew tight end Alge Crumpler and Warrick Dunn was stuffed in two runs up the middle.
Take it away: Green Bay tied for NFL best with plus-17 turnover differential, while Atlanta was tied for fifth with plus-12. The Packers had an NFL-high 45 takeaways.
Gimme Three Steps: Packers' leading rusher Ahman Green will have an excellent opportunity to pour it on tonight. He rushed for 155 yards in the season opener against the Falcons and has four 100-yard games this season, all Packer wins. Last week in Cleveland's win over the Falcons, Browns RB Williams Green had 173 yards and two TDs.
Saturday Night: Tonight will mark the first time the Packers have hosted a Saturday night playoff game at Lambeau Field. Their only Saturday night contests here have been in the pre-season.
