Senior Bowl Q&A: Chris Cook

The Virginia star stood out from a crowd of talented cornerbacks by picking off a pass on Wednesday. Cook, who has spoken with practically every team this week, talks about his Senior Bowl experience.

Cornerback is clearly the best and deepest position at the Senior Bowl here in Mobile, Ala. To keep pace with the likes of Patrick Robinson and Devin McCourty, Chris Cook needed to make his presence felt. And he did just that with an interception of Tony Pike late in Wednesday's practice. We caught up with the 6-foot-2 Cook, who had four interceptions last season for Virginia.

How are things going this week?

A: Pretty good. I've been doing my job pretty well, if I do say so myself. I haven't had too many negative plays, if any, so I think I've had a pretty successful week.

The interception must have been sweet.

A: Yeah, I was standing on the sideline and just had a feeling I was going to get one. That play came and I made the play.

This is a really good group of corners. Do you see that as a measuring stick for yourself?

A: Everyone's pretty good. I haven't seen anyone that's a slouch. I can't say anything bad about our whole group. Everyone's very talented.

All those guys are 5-foot-10. You're 6-foot-2. That's a big advantage, isn't it?

A: That's about the only thing that separates us is my height.

Was there anyone in your life that helped you get to where you are now?

A: My grandfather and my mom. My grandfather actually passed away 10 days before Christmas. My mom, she's just been everything to me, my mom and dad. She's made me who I am today.

Is this fun or stressful, considering what's at stake?

A: It keeps us pretty busy but it's fun. It's very fun meeting all the guys you see playing on TV all across the country.

Of the guys on offense, who is the toughest matchup?

A: Jacoby (Ford, of Clemson), he's ACC. Jacoby's a tough guy. He makes plays, man.
