Charlotte, NC – With the NFL Draft and mini-camp done the Panther first round pick now knows where he is going to start his NFL career. Gross wants to make sure that his NFL career starts out right with him being in training camp on time so that he can learn the system and battle for a starting job.
"I want to make sure that I'm in camp on time so that we can build something so that when the season comes around I will be in the best position to help this team win," said Gross.
Gross knows that with the Panthers he is going to face one of the better defensive lines in the NFL each day in practice and that only will allow him to get better.
"Everybody you go against is as good as the best guys you went against in college, and it makes you better instantly because you have to step up your game or else you're going to get pounded," said Gross.
Something that Gross found out in mini-camp was that speed of the NFL game is a lot faster, and you have to go all out each day.
"When you are out in practice the speed of the players is faster, the strength of the players is a lot better, and the way they capitalize on your moves is a lot better. It's fun to go out there and compete against guys that require you to do your best," Gross said.
Gross has put a lot of pressure on himself and wants to prove to everyone that he belongs in the NFL but so far he is happy with his performance.
"I expected to come in and have to battle my butt off to compete. That's what I have done. I'm happy with what I did in mini-camp. Mentally speaking, I had all my assignments down and everything. That's the one thing you can control. Obviously, everyone is going to be good, but the plays aren't going to change, so you need to know those. It's going to be a fun process to continue to improve and make myself a better tackle," said Gross.
When talking with the coaches many of them believe that Gross can be one of the Panthers starting offensive tackles when the season opens, and so does Gross.
"I think if I come in here and get things done the way they should be done and play at the level I expect to play I think I have the ability to start and play in this league," Gross said.
