Panthers jettison Otah
The Panthers finally gave up on former first round pick Jeff Otah on Monday, agreeing to a deal that would send the oft-injured offensive lineman to the New York Jets for a conditional seventh-round pick. Otah started only 30 games during his four seasons in Charlotte, missing 31 of the last 35 games. Otah never seemed to fully heal from a knee injury suffered in 2009. "Jeff is an extremely talented player, and it was a difficult decision, but we like our young tackles," Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said. "Obviously, we have Jordan Gross, and Byron Bell started last year when Jeff was hurt. With Garry Williams coming off injury and the acquisition of Bruce Campbell, we feel like we have some tackles that can provide depth for us."
