Two more members of the 2012 Texas A&M football team were selected on the second day of the 2013 NFL Draft on Friday at Radio City Music Hall.
Running back Christine Michael was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the final
pick of the second round (No. 62 overall) and defensive end Damontre Moore was
picked with the 19th selection of the third round (No. 81 overall) by the New York Giants. Michael and Moore join teammate Luke Joeckel, who was picked No. 2 overall
by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.
Michael, a senior from Beaumont, Texas, finished his career as the No. 9 rusher in
Texas A&M history with 2,791 yards despite having two seasons end early due to
injuries. His 34 career rushing touchdowns rank in a tie for No. 5 in school
history. Michael owns the longest run from scrimmage in school history - a 97-yarder
against Baylor from his freshman year in 2009. His best single game rushing effort
was 230 yards against Arkansas in 2011, which ranks as the No. 3 single game total
in A&M history.
Moore, a junior from Rowlett, Texas, was a consensus All-American and a finalist for
the Ted Hendricks Defensive End Award. In his first full season as a starter in
2012, Moore led the team in tackles (85), solo tackles (57), sacks (12.5), tackles
for loss (21.0), QB pressures (9) and blocked kicks (2) as he earned All-SEC honors.
For his career, Moore contributed 26.5 sacks, which ranks No. 7 in school history,
and 45.0 tackles for loss. He also made 197 tackles in 38 games of action and forced
an impressive eight fumbles.
The NFL Draft continues at 11 a.m. on Saturday with rounds 4-7.
