Score: Ravens 21, Panthers 7
This certainly was not the first half that the Carolina Panthers hoped for as they have fallen behind 21-7 to the Baltimore Ravens. It is a familiar face who has done most of the damage as Steve Smith Sr. has five receptions for 122 yards and two touchdowns. The ball seems to be bouncing the Ravens way since Smith Sr. first touchdown came thanks to a tipped pass off Owen Daniels that fell right into the wide receivers hands.
The Panthers offense has been able to sustain drives but it has not translated into points. Two of their four drives went for 10 or more plays but only one of those drives ended in points. They haven’t been able to get the run game going (2.5 yards per carry) but have been able to beat the Ravens defense down the field.
Cam Newton has thrown for 135 yards, averaged 8.5 yards per attempt and completed two passes greater than 28 yards. If the Panthers want to get back into this game, they are going to have to do it on Newton’s arm. The Ravens defense has given up big plays and if Newton can connect on a few deep balls, they should be right back in this one.
