Notes
  • For the first time in a long time, the Panthers had some consistency on the offensive line with four of their five starters playing every snap (Trai Turner split reps with Chris Scott). The results unfortunately were the same in terms of defending Cam Newton (four sacks, five QB hits) however they had their best running game of the season. At this point in the season, offensive linemen aren’t going to magically appear and the starting five the Panthers put out there Sunday is probably the best the team has to offer right now. This should be the starting line-up going forward.
  • DeAngelo Williams suffered a fractured finger, according to Max Henson of Panthers.com, against the Minnesota Vikings which caused him to only play 14 snaps on Sunday. Williams has struggled staying healthy this year and Coach Rivera announced he was day-to-day right now. Even if Williams is able to go, this should open up an opportunity for Jonathan Stewart to see increased carries the next couple of games.

Notes

  • Rookie cornerback Bene Benwikere saw a lot of playing time in his first game back from his ankle injury since the Chicago game. Benwikere wasn’t the only rookie to see time in the secondary as the coaching staff inserted Tre Boston at the start of the second quarter at free safety. Boston probably would have gotten more snaps but rolled his ankle and was forced to leave the game.
  • One player who has fallen hard down the depth chart is cornerback Melvin White. After starting three games over a four game stretch from Week 6 to Week 10, he has not seen a single snap at cornerback the past two games. Unless there is an injury in the secondary, it looks like White will be regulated to the special teams unit for the rest of the season.
